Dr. Wolf Forstreuter

Team Leader ? GIS and Remote Sensing

Dr. Wolf Forstreuter, Team Leader has over 35 years experience in forest inventories and forest mapping and over 25 years experience in Fiji and around the pacific. Dr Wolf led Fiji?s national forest inventory in 1991-1992 and was involved in Fiji?s national inventory in 2006. He planned and conducted the forest change detection in Fiji 1991, 2001, 2007 and 2012. He also directed FAO?s forest monitoring project using the Collect Earth approach in 2014. Currently the unit is analysing forest degradation using high resolution satellite image data. Dr. Forstreuter heads up the GIS/RS Unit of GSD.

Sachindra Singh

Senior Geospatial Systems Architect

Sachindra Singh is a systems and software engineer with 15 years of professional experience in developing enterprise-level web, cloud, desktop and mobile data applications, with highly specialised skill-sets in open source geospatial systems. He has implemented a number of high performing, secure and robust systems across a wide range of domains, disciplines and clients. A strong advocate of open source technologies for capacity building and sustainable development in developing countries, he has implemented robust geospatial data products and services in the Pacific, both on a regional and national level. He studied computer science at Victoria University of Wellington, NZ and currently is the Senior Geospatial Systems Architect, and co-lead of the Geoinformatics Section, at the Geoscience Division, Pacific Community (SPC).

Sereima Kalouniviti

Information Systems Lead Reseacher

Sereima Kalouniviti first started with the Secretariat of the Pacific Community in 2008 and is now currently the Lead Information Systems Researcher with 8 years experience in Information Management. The work mostly involves providing and enforcing information management support for programmes and projects and to enable information and data access for staff and stakeholders. In this role, Sereima supervises a team of 3 people to provide guidance and oversee research, cataloguing, digitisation and backing up of information products while also carrying out research, collation and cataloguing of information and data. Sereima is the focal-point to internal and external data inquiries and requests within the division. In addition to her role, Sereima also provides rapporteuring support for management meetings, project workshops and conferences.

Keleni Raqisia

Geospatial Data Administrator

Keleni Raqisia's role is of a Geospatial Data Administrator and primarily consists of cataloguing and up-keeping PacGeo and Geotnetwork spatial data repositories. She provides research, data population, user training and support for the division?s geospatial data and information systems.

Digitaki Tuberi

Web Content Management Assistant

Digitaki Tuberi started working at the Secretariat of the South Pacific Community as a trainee technician in the Information Technology unit in 2007. He later became an assistant technician and was involved in ensuring that ICT network service is available at all times to the Secretariat which includes e-mail, internet browsing, printing, VOIP Phones ,file sharing, server installation, router and switch configuration. He also provides tech support to meetings, conferences and to some embassies which includes the Marshall Islands, Tuvalu and the Nauru embassies. He is currently working in the Geo-informatics Unit at the Geoscience Division as an Information systems assistant in which he is involved in website development, management, and user training. He has developed five websites to date and manages an additional eight that belongs to the geoscience division. He also assists in looking after the division?s financial reporting application which is based on VB.NET and is well versed in the three major Content management systems which are Joomla, WordPress and Drupal. He also has a sound knowledge in CSS, HTML5 and some basic JavaScript.

Zarin Shabana Khan

Assistant Information Researcher

Zarin Shabana Khan first started with the Secretariat of the Pacific Community in 2013 as a Research Assistant for Pacific Disaster Net Geoscience Division. In this position she is very much involve in gathering Disaster Risk Management Information and assist support in research. Her role involves update PDN, calendar updates for every month and provide support to the project, including meetings, workshops, conferences. She also provided support in scanning of finance documents for archives. Currently she is involved in providing support and operate a wide variety of internal and external data/information systems and portals to research collate and catalogue the division?s information products and systems. She also assist projects with data/information management components within the division support in training to division staff and other stakeholders on the division?s data/information products and services.

Sailesh Kumar Sen

Lead Graphic Designer

Sailesh Kumar Sen is the Lead Graphics Designer for the division with 19 years of field experience. He started with The Pacific Community in 2008 as a Graphic Arts Officer providing graphic design and printing services to the Division and is now currently is the Graphic Design and Document Production Officer. His strong technical background and expertise have seen him responsible for hundreds of products spanning in many GSD and SPC Corporate initiatives. His work has raised SPC?s profile throughout the region and the world. His recognition enabled him an opportunity by University of the South Pacific to teach the Advance Graphics Courses.

Dorene Naidu

Digital Records Management Officer

Dorene Naidu first started with the Pacific Community in 2004 as the Library Services Officer providing support to the GSD Campus. In this position she was very much involved in providing assistance to the research needs of the staff and member countries apart from managing the physical and digital library collection with cataloguing and organizing the reports and data that was collected. This role also allowed her to provide assistance and recommendations to projects with the initial setting up of the Pacific Disaster Network and digitising work of the Compendium as well as overseeing the movement of the Petroleum Database from Geoscience Australia to GSD. Currently, she is working as the Digital Records Management Officer for the Geoinformatics section in GSD, the Pacific Community with the role of providing research support and collection and management of information and records.

Navneet Lal

Graphic and Multimedia Assistant

Navneet Lal joined the Pacific Community as an attaché for the publication and library unit (PLU) in 2008 to help with the retrospective scanning and digitization of the SOPAC Commission reports. In 2010 he started with the SOPAC Compendium Project involved with the digitization of all large format maps charts and seismic data sets generated by the work programs of the Pacific Islands Applied Geoscience Commission in its 40 year history. In 2013 Navneet became the PLU Compendium Project Assistant. Apart from providing digitization support to the compendium project he also continued providing support for graphic design to programs. In 2015 he became the graphic and multimedia assistant with the Publications Unit providing support to programs in Graphic Design, Photography and large format printing and lamination. Currently, Navneet Lal is working as the Web and Print Graphic and Multimedia Assistant providing support to program in graphic design, content creation and layout, equipment maintenance, photography, large-format digital capturing (scanning), large printing, lamination and assisting as photo/videographer for organization documentation.

Litia Gaunavou

GIS and Remote Sensing Specialist

Image Data Purchase and Processing has 8 years? experience in GIS & remote sensing. She specializes in satellite image purchase, pre-processing including but not limited to haze removal and atmospheric correction. To apply this to satellite image data, pan-sharpening is performed in-house after the enhancements. Her master thesis had the subject of bread fruit including pandanas mapping with WorlView-2 image data in Tarawa, Kiribati. Litia can also handle the GPS, RTK and field collection, and is flexible as she can fit in to other tasks within the unit when required.

Naomi Jackson

GIS and Remote Sensing, Capacity Building - Technical Assistant

Naomi has worked in the GIS and Remote Sensing unit for 6 years and is specialised in two areas: (i)creation of digital elevation models from stereo satellite images and (ii) special applications and customisation of QGIS software and training. She is currently working with FAO?s forest reservation project undertaking fieldwork to gather ground reference points using RTK GPS. She also trains the use of ArcGIS for ESRI.

Kataebati Bataua

GIS and Remote Sensing Technical Assistant - Atoll Mapping and Coconut Inventory

Kataebati has 6 years work experience in GIS & remote sensing and his main task is coconut palm cover mapping and resource inventories. He has completely mapped all the islands in Kiribati and parts of Tuvalu and Federated States of Micronesia at 1:10,000 scale and responsible for coconut palm counting with semi-automatic procedures. He is proficient in coconut resources and forest field work with plot establishment and forest measurements using forestry tools. He also carries out database input and analysis.

Salote has 4 years in GIS & remote sensing and also worked in the Collect Earth forest monitoring project for FAO. She is currently seconded to SPC Statistics Division where she is working on Population GIS and census data collection with electronic input.
